How to install Kodi on RetroPie

Did you know that your Retropie console can also double as a streaming device ? Maybe you’re burnt out on gaming and want to catch the last season of Rick and Morty instead. Well it’s easy thanks to Retropie’s menu of optional add on’s that feature Kodi.

Below are the steps necessary to download and run the Kodi add on.

Step 1: Head to the Retropie Menu

On the home screen scroll over to the Retropie Menu Logo and click the select button.

Step 2: Head to RETROPIE SETUP

Now that you’re in the Retropie Menu look for the option named “RETROPIE SETUP” and open it.

Step 3: Select “Manage packages”

A blue screen with a grey box displaying some text will pop up. Similar to the RASPI-CONFIG menu for those who have configured their Raspi’s with it before.

Step 4: Select “Manage optional packages”

Now look for the option titled “MANAGE OPTIONAL PACKAGES” and select it.

Step 5: Select Kodi

Scroll down towards the bottom until you see an option titled “KODI” then select.

Step 6: “Install from binary”

Now there will be another option in the new menu titled “install from binary”. Select it and then you will see text start to appear in the terminal. This means kodi is downloading. just be patient and allow it to install all the packages. Wait times will vary based on your connection.

Step 7: Restart your RetroPie

Once the installation is complete reboot Retropie and scroll to the left or right on the homescreen and look for the PORTS option and open it. Inside there will be an option titled Kodi. Open it and enjoy all your favorite movies and shows free at the click of a button!
